The Truth about The Peaky Blinders

Set in Birmingham UK after WW1, even though somewhat fictional, depicts the lives of ordinary working class people of those times. The story is set in a place called Smallheath where my maternal grandparents lived in the 1920s.  My mother was born there.  Birmingham has been much maligned by academics and others who should know better.  I am proud to say I was born in Birmingham, the City of a thousand teades.  It represents the heart of the working class everywhere. My suspicions are the Ruling Class hate places like Birmingham  because it was a radical Unionised City which fought and won many of the civilised work conditions we enjoy today.
